Cosmetic Surgery and Insurance Coverage

Reconstructive surgery is surgery performed on abnormal body structures caused by congenital defects, trauma, disease, etc. Reconstructive surgery generally improves function but also may improve appearance. Reconstructive surgery is covered by most health insurance plans.

Cosmetic surgery is usually not covered by health insurance plans because it is considered to be elective in most cases. Cosmetic surgery is not considered a medical necessity. However, some surgeries require special consideration by the health insurance industry.

Some surgical procedures can be considered reconstructive or cosmetic, depending on the patient and his or her particular circumstance. For instance, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), usually performed to achieve a cosmetic enhancement, may also correct severely drooping eyelids that obscure vision. Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) that corrects a defect that causes breathing problems is another example of cosmetic surgery having a corrective and cosmetic result at the same time. Only Dr. Smoot, after an initial consultation, can decide why and if you need a specific surgery to correct your problem.

  1. The truth is that the only country in the world where people are properly aware of the existence of cosmetic foot surgery is USA. This is because such procedures have not been included properly in other countries. To make it even worse, the information that you find online is not much and there are not many doctors that do such surgeries. The good news is that we are witnessing a constant growth in awareness and more people daily start to realize the benefits of undergoing cosmetic foot surgery.

  2. Cosmetic surgery together with non-surgical treatments are very famous nowadays. Everybody seems to enjoy the “secret of eternal youth” but they miss an important point. Very often people tend to look just at the price and nothing else. It’s very important to find out more about the practitioner first, about his/her background and skills not at the deal that is presented otherwise people could end up with a very miserable result.
