Facial Rejuvenation via Collagen
Patients in La Jolla and throughout the country have trusted collagen facial rejuvenation for decades as a way to fill out sunken cheeks, facial wrinkles, and scars, as well as to plump up the lips.
Because natural collagen is derived from bovine tissue, you will need to have an allergy test at our San Diego Facial Plastic Surgery Office one month before collagen facial rejuvenation treatment. Any itching, redness, or swelling should be reported, as these are signs that collagen rejuvenation may not be the right choice for you.
Anesthesia for collagen injections is generally not needed, as the doctor will combine the collagen with lidocaine, a numbing agent designed to minimize discomfort. Since part of the injected solution will be absorbed within the first few days after treatment, the doctor will "overfill" each area to be treated to ensure a perfect result. After collagen facial rejuvenation, you will be allowed to resume your normal activities almost immediately, though you may experience some swelling and redness in your face for a few days.
The results of collagen facial rejuvenation vary greatly depending where the collagen is injected; in general, you can expect results to be shortest in muscles that are used most often. During your consultation, your doctor can help you determine how often collagen treatments may be necessary.
